A delivery of ginger beer and mineral waters around 1895. The driver is my Gt Grandfather Samuel Bailey--he was making ginger beer and mineral water in his premises in London's East End --Old Ford Road and Armagh Rd-- from 1864 ( or earlier) until the business was sold around 1902. I've got three of his bottles and LOOKING FOR MORE (details on forum under bottles wanted). I know the date as the little girl in the picture is apparently my Gt Aunt Emily---Samuel's daughter. We knew the original photo existed as an elderly aunt remembers seeing it hanging up "somewhere"-she was suffering dementia when she told me---so I contacted all my cousins to ask whether they knew about it. Amazingly it came to light via a cousin who lives in New Zealand!
I reckon the publican is the gent standing in front of the door. I'm fascinated by what's on the back of the 2 horse dray----looks like crates and a barrel of something. Ginger beer on tap???? It took 2 horses to pull the dray so the load must have been heavy.
There were 2 generations of family making mineral water and ginger beer. Both called Samuel Bailey and going back to at least 1864 as recorded on birth/marriage certificates etc. A few years later after Samuel senior's death his wife ELIZA took over the business in 1879---until their son Samuel Charles Bailey junior took it on until he sold it off in about 1902. --It is of course Samuel junior on the photograph. If anyone comes across any BAILEY bottles----London licence number 16----please contact me. Thanks DAVE BAILEY. ( Norwich).

Thanks Matey-------a definite improvement. Appreciated. ( with a name like David Bailey you'd have thought I'd got it right!). Dave.

Cheers. Will post details if any come up.
I would love to know why there is a wooden BARREL on top of the load. Does anyone reckon it had ginger beer in? I wouldn't have thought that it would have stood the internal pressure? Don't think it would have been mineral water either and there is no evidence of him making soft-drinks as far as I know. Any ideas? I think the name over the pub is Edward Carter and the pub would have been in the Old Ford Rd area.
Cheers. Dave
