ive not seen one like this before it has broken off either a hook or something else I’m not sure. Any help with what it would have looked like would be great. Thank you

It's an advertising match striker and would have been hung in a local shop and filled with matches, for local smoking customers to help themselves to a free light.

Does it have striations up the side for striking the matches on?

It is a bar match striker, designed for hanging upside down in the local:D. There should be a serrated ridge running on the sides for striking. It was not the best design in the world as the ceramic hanging piece was a weak point and inevitably suffered damage. The Pontyclown aerated water Co. dates it as pre. 1902 as it changed to Pontyclun at that date, for reasons that only the Welsh can explain:D!
The Pontyclown aerated water co. was owned by T. Morgan, wine and spirit merchant Pontyclun, C1890-1920.
If you want to move it on I would be interested, as I live in the area.

Thank you both for your fast response and makes sense with the ridges down the side, unfortunately at this time I’m keeping it as I have a nice growing collection from South Wales as I’m only down the road from you I’m in Bridgend :) if however I end up finding another one I will gladly offer you one.

Thanks again

I will also say welcome, it always gives me hope when I see a new local item turn up, well pleased for you:). Morgans were quite big in the area as they were wholesale bottlers and wine and spirit merchants, as well as brewers, sadly the M4 now sits on their site just west of Pontyclun! Many years ago I dug a broken water jug with the same logo on it, so there is hope for us yet;).

Another Welsh collector! Welcome butty. Most of us Southwalians collect our towns as a priority, so I don't blame you for keeping it. There are a few nice items from Bridgend, but the better things are always harder to find. Let us know what you are after and we can give you the heads up maybe?

Thank you for the warm welcome guys, I’m very lucky to have come across a couple of tips that have never been dug and have had a fair few nice bits, I’ve been digging about 10 months now and I think I’ll be digging for many many years.. I did dig this myself as I have every bottle I own, at the moment I prefer to dig my bottles but that’s mainly because I have a lot of ground to dig lol. I will post some pictures of my bottles for you all to see, my best was a CODD with a brown marble which was a surprise :)
