Collecting Welsh pictorial glass has got off to a good start and has gone up a gear in its second week with a Swansea Aerated Water Co narrow neck codd. Previous pictorials have been the later patents, but this one is a bit special.

Very nice Mark
Thought I'd show you this one as it fits your thread. I added this one just a month ago bought it just because of the early shape and embossing around the base It's embossed 'Powell & Ricketts makers Bristol' with the 'Codd's patent London'. The mould has alterd to remove the SE. and weird (typically of early Codd Patent 16's )

of interest to you as it's eary Swansea Invicta horse trade mark Orange St address.

Love the narrow neck codd Mark  I've always had a liking for early codds - I am yet to dig one! Its a shame you sold your pictorial beer collection as you had some crackers.

They don't live all that far away Andrew as all of the Welsh ones are with another member here. The others are scattered about the place. It was a very good collecting line with lots of choice, but folk have now cottoned on and they are getting very tough to find now. My hometown bottles is such a tight discipline, that another venture was always on the cards. I think I'm due for a few more later this week.

I've always like early glass Mike and I've dug a few broken choice items in that tip we both know in your home town. :pinch:

The Swansea Aerated Water Co. produced some nice early pictorial glass, narrow neck codds, bullet stoppers and The Edwards patent. There is also the rumour of an early codd hybrid being found as well from the same company.

That Edwards patent is a so scarce, I dug two broken ones on the Gorse lane tip (in those days we never kept the brokers), and also a necked 10 oz. hybrid from the same company, there is an intact six ounce hybrid in a private Swansea collection, seen it and handled it.Any town or city that had a mineral water works in the early 1870s, and later, will produce these fascinating early relics, if you can find them:D!
