The licence of the Ship is held jointly by Mr Wm J Groves and Mr W A Rossalthough as the former is eighty three years of age, Mr Ross and his wife takecare of the house and live on the premises. The Ross family have been at theShip for more than forty years, the present licensee's father coming there in1912. After the death of his father and his mother, Mr W A Ross took over thelicence (with his step father, Mr Groves), in 1946.

Mr W A Ross served in the Merchant Navy and the R N R during World War II,making many Atlantic crossings with troopships - Black Eagle Quarterly Journal[1955] ***

Great to see the research which fleshes out these bottles. Bought a pub flask this weekend (simple glass type) from an antiques centre for just two pounds. It was mint and from London, quick Google and bingo its still there and along with some history its now a treasured piece.

* Wanted: James Lewis miniature blue Hamilton and any Billericay bottles and any round pub flasks. Please pm me if you have any or know of any for sale. I may have good lids/bottles for swaps or your best cash price paid *Always looking for new dig sites in the South East*
