Patent glass Codd opener from 1876. The top looks like it has a pontil mark, but it was probably where the piece was snapped off a moulding sprig. I only know of three, not surprising really, what a daft idea - slamming a piece of glass down on to another piece of glass. No wonder some early neck codds have chipped lips & nicks out of the marbles ! Although the underside had a recess to take a thin rubber washer it was still doomed to eventually go into the 'bad ideas' bin.

Wanted --- any unusual items from Kent & the South East, including advertising, early stoneware, & bottles (of course!).  Also rare patent poisons, early pontilled medicines, & rare burst lip/teakettle inks.

That falls into category of those glass hammers not often seen.:)
