Not in my normal collecting field at all, but couldn't resist this lovely folk-art stippled blackglass rolling pin commemorating the building of Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge over the River Tyne. The misspelling of 'Remember' is especially quaint ! The bridge was opened by Queen Victoria in 1849, but this piece is dated 1848 which is when a special train ran over the first arch. Presumably this pin was made for a workman or official, the train & carriages can actually be seen chuffing along ! Also depicted is a sailing boat, churchwarden pipes, a wine bottle complete with kick-up, & a building with the aformentioned date. Apologies for the photos, I don't like using flash, but it was the only way to show the stippling effectively. Also apologies to the Newcastle boys, I'm afraid it's a keeper !

That's a lovely thing John, packed with history. Funny, but I've been watching Dan Snow's Railway programme this afternoon and was of the same era. :)

It was spotted by an eagle-eyed internet dealer in a tray of other bits that came from a deceased person's house clearance. Apparently there was other interesting stuff from the same source as well. Like the boots !

I dug an aqua rolling pin on an 1852 tip once; I wish I kept it now. :pinch:
