Hi - I'm trying to get some background on this 3 inch high Doulton pot that was found in Buckinghamshire. Don't believe it is actually related to Buckinghamshire itself. Research so far has a possible link to the Buck's Club in London, a gentleman's club established in 1919 and home of the Buck's Fizz. I have been in contact with the club however they do not believe it is related to them. They have told me that the founder of the club, Capt Herbert Buckmaster, may also have had a restaurant in the Brighton area possibly called Cheesmans.

Appreciate any information.

Bucks club- a cricket club in Buckinghamshire running from at least 1866 -1934, British newspaper archive is showing,

If you read the story I believe the reference to puppy dog pie is a slanderous term to the rival towns food (pies), probably in "high jinks of the time" in the newspaper, albeit, your caviar pot could have been from their clubhouse, cigars and caviare seem realistic in a cambridge cricket club clubhouse of the time,

Thank you for the information. I'll see if this helps identify the pot.

Caviar sounds better than puppy dog pie!

Buck's Club - never going to be able to say where it's from 100%, just not enough info on the pot to be sure, unless you somehow strike it really lucky, myself personally if I owned it, I wouldn't be bothered about the history because there is not enough to go on to research and put a newspaper clipping with it with a very high certainty your right, I looked to help out the owner who does want to know and the possibility of striking it lucky sits well with a diggers thought process / imbalance, (ain't gonna happen, don't bother, realistic angel on one shoulder, / you might strike it lucky devil in the other ear, always ending up wasting your time) as realistic thinking and gut instinct is always right, a nice doulton caviar, can't go wrong, my bucks club post is a shot, Cambridge area provenance adds weight to it, although still it can nowhere near be guaranteed it's correct,

Would a cambridge cricket club have that made by doulton ???? could there be some random circumstances that made it happen, possibly, likely - it's doubtable, just keep pot shotting if you really want to know is all you can do, I'm always interested to know if you ever do find out, good luck

My guess is, Doulton made a fair proportion of the Caviare pots that come to light, so Doulton may well have been the 'go to' people for such an item, wherever you happened to be :)

WANTED: BANBURY ITEMS
glassware, stoneware, flagons, potlids -why?
I'll guarantee to beat ANYBODY'S price for quality items I need for my collection
PLEASE P.M. ME WITH DETAILS ;)
