Hi all,
I saw one of these identical bottles go on ebay a month ago for £54.00, just got both for £13.50, larger 8.5cm smaller 5.5cm
As i collect inks is it one and if so was it a bargain.
Intereseted in all your feed back as usual. Thanks

Hi, just to let you know, these are not ink bottles, they are perfume bottles. Very nice, but not inks I'm afraid.

Hi, thanks,
I thought most perfume bottles had cut glass stoppers or at least smooth tops not sheared glass. abit sharp for those dainty ladies fingers to dab on.

Agreed - these are not inks - they would be way too unstable & fall over in use if they were.

I tend to agree with others defo perfume they where the cheaper end of the perfume bottles made back then has cut glass and other perfumes where more expensive to make and I once dug one with a remains of cork in top and perfect size and shape for a Victorians purse and they don't need to stand up because they would be laid on side either in purse or some other pocket etc also the perfume would keep cork moist ish so cork would stay in place still nice perfume bottles dug a few similar to yours not of great value hope it helpsSmile also could very easily use the cork to dab on perfume very suprised one sold for 54.00 quid that's eBay for ya but most diggers in the known would nt pay anywhere near that mine went in a good bulk bag mine where smaller but very similar

They are of the type universally known as "penny perfumes" which were cheap perfumes at the working class women end of the market, which probably was a massive part of the market but not one we think of, as we have been conditioned to think of perfume as a luxury product. Remember back then they didnt wash very much so they stank, so they covered it up with cheap perfume...
There is a good market for these and growing. Roger Pellow of course has/had a major collection, and his involvement did increase interest and value in these. They are great and have the same sort of interest/appeal as inks but generally not such a big market as inks that is all, so generally not such high prices.

As perfume bottles they have quite a following of their own and are sought after. They are too narrow to contain ink as it wont be in the bottle for long! Lovely things thoughCool

I noticed the end price of 54.00 on the other one. These usually sell for between 5-10.00 in my experience but every now and again eBay achieves exceptional prices when two collectors cant live without an item. As others have said, nice penny perfume.

* Wanted: James Lewis miniature blue Hamilton and any Billericay bottles and any round pub flasks. Please pm me if you have any or know of any for sale. I may have good lids/bottles for swaps or your best cash price paid *Always looking for new dig sites in the South East*
