Hi,

Are these medicine bottles or did they contain something else?

Both were medicines. The tall one is from Dicey, and the square one is a C. Manley Patent.

The Manleys were very rare until a small group was found in Charleston. Now they are slightly more available, although most collectors have one. He was a London chemist.

The Dicey is a super thing. It's unusual as the embossing is squashed up to one end, it probably has an American ring pontil and a flared lip. I've only seen one like this before (mine). Even though it has a ring pontil, mine was found in the UK, maybe yours was as well?

I expect the PMs will be coming in quite quickly!

cheers

R

The UK version of the Dicey is quite common - but that one is a belter..

The really rare one is the conical version - that flares downward. Only ever seen one of these - has pontilled base and dicey written on base. I sold mine with a 2 inch crack for £300.
