Yes, I see what you mean. Is it possible that the edge of the front medallion may have been broken precisely just before the protruding bit thats left, either that or the front medallion was ofset or smaller which I would doubt very much. You can wait for the others to see your question and get them to look at their 3 medallion jugs and see whether the medallions vary in size or are offset etc.....I cant help with this as mine are packed away and I havent got access today.I have never really thought about whether they were equal in size or not and never checked, but am sure I would have noticed if they were varying sizes.

All the best and I hope you get some answers tonight,

Steve

Hi Steve, many thanks for this. It is definately possible that the piece broke near where the medallion was, but the medallion would be slightly offset. Thing is, these items are not perfect are they, so it could just be a matter of being a little wonky!

I am hoping to start casting the medallion/s soon, I am trying to get the latex moulds right (latex not going off very well at the mo), but I've got loads of time before I'll be ready to set the medallion/s in place.

I wonder why they came in 1's and 3's and not 2's.

All the best,
Nat

Quote by dux Bellorum.  I wonder why they came in 1's and 3's and not 2's.

I think it was just down to positioning of the medallions and the general look,as i think a Bellarmine would look odd with one medallion/cartouche on either side and then a blank space at the front! One looks great at the front and three, i.e. one at the front and one either side spaced out look just right on the Bellarmine. Only a thought!

Have you ever seen a Bellarmine with three medallions all on the front together?

No, but mine does look mega weird, I'm sure it doesn't have a medallion in the front. I have cast a few medallions today though, so I can put one on the front of the restoration if I want.

All the best,

Here's a recent ebay purchase which is all ready on the forum under the comps, but i thoght i had better add it to the Bellarmine thread. This came on ebay and disappeared and i was very disappointed and then was relisted later on with a buy it now and i was very lucky to win it,as another forum member said he pressed the button to buy the bellarmine and then it came up sold, so i only won it by split seconds in all account! The stuff you can see on the top of the mask is candle wax, which i still have'nt removed yet. Here's the ebay discription:
Large (circa 18 inch tall) bellarmine, usual bearded face plus other symbols. I inherited this from my well-travelled great aunt but have to admit it isn't my sort of thing. Believe they are collectible though. Appears good condition, you will see a chip in the handle but nothing more serious. If you're local you are welcome to come and view. item number:270886467006

Here's another totally un-restored Bellarmine with three medallions that i have just picked up. Came yesterday in the post and i am very pleased with my purchase all round. It also still has some of the contents still pressent inside, but the cork or what ever it was that originally stoppered the Bellarmine has fallen inside the bottle which is a shame.
