Thanks guys for all your positive comments re my first post in this thread, I have edited it already to add more info re the embossing.
Steve With regard to the camera, I use a Canon EOS digital mounted on a tripod with a Sigma close up lens. Using a close up lens requires a tripod otherwise if hand held the pics would be unusable because of distortion due to camera shake.
The shots are taken indoors using a light tent and 4 sets of daylight bulbs also mounted on tripods. That allows me to direct light from all sides or different heights and positions. All the pics are taken using manual camera settings, which give me far better control of the photos.
Having said all that for every photo I use I probably discard half a dozen others as not good enough. Aqua glass in particular is very difficult to photo as I'm sure you will all know, when I have two or three different coloured bottles together in a shot the problems increase for example as in the two Reliance dumpys.
I found that the best way to achieve a good photo is to take a separate shot of each one with the camera and the bottle fixed in the same position to retain the perspective and change the camera settings manually for each one. Finally the two or three pics are merged together for the end result
Photo 6 an early amber dumpy embossed CODDS/PATENT/4 / MAKERS/ RYLANDS & CODD / BARNSLEY, no rear embossing. this bottle is very rare I believe 3 only are known together with the small early Patent 24 Murat showing the rear embossing.
Photo 7 the Patent 4 alongside another amber dumpy embossed on front ROYAL UNDERCLIFFE / WATER / AND ICE / COMPANY / VENTNOR / RUWAIC. Rear embossing CODDS PATENT 4 / MAKERS / CODD & RYLANDS / BARNSLEY. Note the almost flat bottom on this dumpy it even though its a later bottle.
Photo 8 the Murat Patent 24 alongside an early Patent 4 embossed Codds Patent /4 / Barnett & Foster / Sole Agents / London / N, no rear embossing. There is a glue like sediment still inside which I've found impossible to remove. So it awaits a clean and polish
Photo 9 & 10 three and then four of the small dumpy Codds shown together.
Photo 11 early 10 ounce greeen embossed as the small Murat above, CODD'S / PATENT / LONDON 24 / BARNETT & FOSTER / SOLE AGENTS / FORSTON / LONDON, no rear embossing
Photo 12 three colours together
