Not sure if these bottles have made an appearance on the forum before? For me they are probably one of the most desirable collectables items out there as they combine two of my interests!

Does anyone have one or know of any others in existance?

Three Counties Asylum Codds bottle, in 1911 attendants were able to purchase two mineral water bottles per day at a cost of 10 shillings {approx 50p} annually. Many deaths had occurred through typhoid from the contaminated asylum water supply, Staff refused to drink from the taps, provisions were made for a mineral water factory to be set up and supply fresh bottled mineral water.

There are a few around as the asylum and surrounding land was turn into a posh housing estate and while they where building the houses they uncovered a dump which quite a few codds came off . A few of the bottles collectors on here have them

My biggest fear is that when I die my missus will sell my bottles for what I told her they cost me.

Thanks, thats good info! We had been looking for a tip there (left over after the conversion) as we have dug at several other Asylum tips and been happy with just some fragments of pottery let alone a codd! Guess we were too late! Knew i should have gone there while they were doing the work a few years back..

If anyone has one for sale PLEEEASSSEEE let me know
